Colonial Legacies and Democratization in the Lusophone World

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon, hosted, between 11 and 13 September 2024, the anniversary conference of the International Political Science Association (IPSA) dedicated to the topic Democratization and Autocratization.

Patrícia Jerónimo acted as speaker in a panel on Colonial Legacies and Democratization Pathways in the Lusophone World, organised by Tiago Fernandes (IUL-ISCTE, Portugal) and Olukunle Owolabi (Villanova University, USA), with a paper titled “Citizenship, Immigration, and Multiculturalism in Democratic Portugal”. Other speakers on the panel were Tiago Fernandes and Olukunle Owolabi, Bernardo Pinto da Cruz (Nova University of Lisbon, Portugal) and António Raimundo (University of Minho, Portugal). Mark Beissinger (Princeton University, USA) and Michael Coppedge (University of Notre Dame, USA) acted as discussants.

At the invitation of the conference organisers, Patrícia Jerónimo also acted as discussant in a panel on Citizens and Identities in Democratization/Autocratization Trends, chaired by Carmelo Cattafi (ITESM, Mexico) and which has as speakers, besides Carmelo Cattafi, Jean-Nicolas Bordeleau (University of Ottawa, Canada), Rodney Hero (Arizona State University, USA) and Günce Sabah Eryılmaz (Bahcesehir University, Türkiye).
