InclusiveCourts’ team with a strong presence at the annual meeting of the Law and Society Association in Lisbon

Several researchers who are part of the InclusiveCourts’ team presented papers at the annual meeting of the Law and Society Association, which this year was held at ISCTE-IUL, in Lisbon, from 13 until 16 July. Three of the papers discussed outcomes of the project InclusiveCourts – “Reckoning, recognition, and uncharted terrain: Views of the Portuguese judiciary on cultural diversity and professional practice” (by Ximene Rego, Manuela Ivone Cunha and Sílvia Gomes); “The right to education and compulsory schooling of Roma children through the lens of court practice in Portugal (by Patrícia Jerónimo and Nicole Friedrich); and “Bridging the methods-divide in interviews with judges and prosecutors in Portugal” (by Patrícia Jerónimo and Ximene Rego, in a panel chaired by Patrícia Jerónimo). Also, Jean-Yves Durand chaired a panel entitled «Get Vaxxed!» Law and Vaccination during the COVID-19 Pandemic, where he gave a presentation, co-authored with Manuela Ivone Cunha, under the title Drug Decriminalization in Portugal: Implementation, Impact and Key Lessons Learned, in which Ximene Rego was one of the speakers. Manuela Ivone Cunha spoke at a round-table on Bridging Legal Theory and Socio-Legal Studies in the Iberian Context. The conference programme is available here.
